First congrats for Michael J. Fox for getting nominated for his contributions towards research in regards to Parkinson's, but least lets not forget all the others that have made contributions and have received high honers by WebMD.
It takes great character to stand up and take action while in the life-long progress of facing a debilitating disease. But perhaps like myself I find new strength not only within myself to keep going, but through people like Mr. Fox. This new strength that Mr. Fox and I seem to share surly awakens ambitions that keep the maddening sickness at bay; positive mindset not only is a factor but as in this article, following a set of steps that are well defined will help anyone cope.
Like Mr. Fox-cancer has robbed me; taken away almost everything I had dreamed to do. But it has not stolen my spirit or will to continue living. And even everyday is a challenge I look towards the future; past the darkness that surrounds-like drowning in an endless sea; finding a guiding light that baths me in a healing light allows me to heal. In any case we would all like to go back into the future, turn back time and warn ourselves of our impending future, But the tribulations that we face like Mr. Fox, or many face we would not discover ourselves or even find cures. We would not grow or learn new things. Make new connections.
Michael J. Fox battles Parkinson's and even though its not cancer it still takes dedication and research to find a cure. Mr. Fox says it best "You have to take your time and do what you need to do....where there's no good or bad or right or wrong...you accept it."
During my battle with this Colon Cancer I have had to take my own mental steps to ease my mind from the pain of going through treatment. Mr. Fox points out "Only when my body couldn't keep still was I able to find the stillness in myself." I can take this and form it into my own mindset. Find the stillness within myself, Where I say my mantras and good thoughts about my current condition. I say I am in remission.
Like a lot of foundations I am trying to take knowledge that I find and share it to the best of my ability, hoping that it will help those not only facing Cancer, but will help them heal. Mr. Fox has taken the steps by founding the Michael J. Fox Foundation-seeking cures for Parkinson's.
Read the article to find out what other steps Mr. Fox takes to keep himself going in WebMd Nov/Dec 2014.

A New Prescription
When I bought this book online through Amazon-I thought it was going to be nonfiction, but it was a fictional story line with a real plot that twisted me into wanting to discover a cure for cancer. But alas if I did so would have to be careful not to get caught up in a espionage.
Indeed, as this book offered some helpful advice in using alternative methods; used for to treat cancer, but have been deemed not a valuable source by organizations like the FDA.
In retrospect its difficult to confront my oncologist about my use of alternative methods while still undergoing western medical treatments. I fear that if I do (which of course this blog presents) other factions that manufacture the chemotherapy drugs could come out of the woodwork and take after me. Its a real possibility, and as I'm not so much dwelling in conspiracy theories I'm sure many would agree with me.
Please buy this book and visit the website.

Dear Nicholas,
"Thank you very much for the kind feedback, and I am glad you enjoyed the book!
Indeed I am now working on a non-fiction book on this very topic. My research for this book has changed my opinion quite dramatically on how best to approach cancer treatment, compared to when I wrote The Eden Prescription. I originally ignored diet, but now find this to be key in supporting the body's immune system and also a successful outcome from conventional / alternative treatments. In particular, a very high vegetable content, alkalizing diet is of key importance, as well as eliminating added sugars and minimizing saturated fat (in particular from animal sources). Raw vegetables are usually better than cooked with the exception of carrots, where cooked is better and juiced is best (for alpha carotene absorption). In my opinion, this should be the foundation for any cancer prevention / treatment program.
Also, whereas oncologists originally ignored the immune system, we know now that the body's ability to infiltrate a tumor with immune cells is one of the best predictors of survival. Therefore mushrooms and their extracts are of prime importance, and it appears that they synergize with green tea in this (reasons why are complex). So this is also an important consideration."
I hope this helps!
Bests regards,
Ethan Evers
P.S. By the way did you know I have a Facebook page "The Eden Prescription" where I post updates on natural medicine / diet for cancer?

No Rush Attitude
Often I'll watch Dr. Oz (but until a a month ago we did not have a Television all summer.) Which was fine with me. But now I sort of got to get caught up with what he has been discussing. Other than following advice from his website I came across and article "Time Good Life" I myself have always been a rush. One appointments to the next. One task done and onto another protect. I guess in a way I need to stop and smell the roses. Enjoy the fresh air. Bask in the sun.
Dr. Oz cover how to take back time from your busy life. "One way I steal back time is by surrounding myself with people I trust." Its often that I worry about a lot of things. Especially now that I am fighting Cancer and dealing with financial issues. Stop that worry and surrounded yourself with people that you trust states Dr. Oz. I also agree that we need to focus on the moments in our lives that make us happy and not let those ideal get in the way of living a full and healthy life.

Makers Diet
"Disease can arrest your dreams and place your life on hold." Absolutely true. As I have been battling Cancer my life has been put on hold. I do have good days when I can focus on being creative or getting out, but a majority of the time the Treatments knock me down. "Breaking the vicious cycles" Its all important that you break the vicious cycle of consuming all the bad foods that are filled with sugar and Fructose. I have read this book a few times, and I find it reassuring that going back to a basic diet while eliminating unhealthy foods will break that cycle and restore you back to optimal health.

Behind the Food Labels
I grabbed this book the other day and in a way, since I had already watched a few documentaries knew about the hidden-secretive world of raising food for consumption. But like anything; we need to read books like this in order to understand more about how animals are being treated. The ethics that are being used as I put it "harvesting" defenseless animals for consumption.
We have gone half way into becoming more vegans then anything and sure I can get my protein from plant based foods its still important to eat some beef or poultry. Its just important that you understand how to read labels and find the companies that treat animals humanly.
I rather like as stated in the book-referring to Socrates in Plato's Republic. "Bread, cheese, vegetables, olives, figs, and moderation of wine." This sounds like an excellent daytime snack!

Sustainability
In the September issue that I picked up at Natural Grocers I came across an article covering the issues and problems many are faxing when trying to get fresh sustainable produce; organic produce that is.
The USDA states "24 million have no access," to fresh goods. Though it has not been an easy task many organizations/agencies have cropped up like the Financing Initiative to provide grants to co-ops.
It takes initiative to put together business and farms that grow organics and can provide to everyone in the surrounding area. Its an important step I believe to create a healthy reduced cost lifestyle.
Head on down to Natural Grocers and pick up a copy, but don't forget to do a little healthy shopping.

A Good Source Guide
Looking for a reference guide to add to your library? This would be a good start. The first part of the book covers natural choices one can make from tops such as Aromatherapy, Message, and even Imagery Therapy. Like all reference guides the second part of the book offers you a way to make informed choices about aliments that might be occurring. I myself try and incorporate as many healing choices that might remedy my health situation and can turn to this book if I need some helpful adivce. Noe: Please consult with a doctor before hand as a precaution.

Better Nutrition
It all starts with nutrition. In any stage of life its paramount to indulge in foods not only to be satisfying but truly to enhance and keep your body going. Poor diet can result in many issues like cancer.
August Issue gives advice on which supplements and how much should be taken on a daily basis.

Delicious!
Nick: While at Natural Grocers, picking up some great food I grabbed this magazine. I found some key concepts through some of the articles related to nutrition and supplements.
August issue talks about the last thirty years of the health food industry. A statement by the editor Doug Green, "One way to change the world was to change the way we eat."

A Hotline for Health
Recently we started shopping at Natural Grocers and discovered another valuable health food store. Offering everything and anything that is needed to maintain a healthy inside and out.
I've made a short mention from the article; since I stated chemo I've had an array of problems with our mighty sun rays. I've already gotten a bad sunburn (and scolded from not protecting myself. ) A few articles in this addition talks about protecting the skin and eyes. What supplements can be taken along with natural foods.
Otherwise this magazine offers other insightful information, some recipes, and price listing for foods and supplements sold in the store. We go to the Natural Grocers located off of 82 in Clackamas Oregon.

Awaken
Just browsed through this book and would recommend it for anyone that needs straight forward information when using essential oils. The book is broken up in several main sections that allow this to be used as a reference guide and lists some methods that can be used at home.
Since I have been battling cancer I have been using essential oils recommended by a natural path and also by Deanne who has been studying oils for several years now.
